Copier Technician BasicsCopier printer scanner MFD office equipment is getting more complicated and the choices are increasing. The merging of the traditional printer and copier machines has presented companies with hard decisions. What is the best manufacturer for the money? Lowest cost? Best options and functionality? Most durable? Canon, Toshiba, Minolta, Ricoh, Gestetner, Xerox, HP, Sharp, Lanier, Copystar, Lexmark, Brother? Now compound the many brands with companies that only specialize in one or two brands and it's clear to see why companies have problems with selecting the right equipment or getting in the wrong lease. If you get your equipment from a company which specializes in one brand take care. Why? Because you will receive a bias view. If a vendor only represent Canon or Sharp how will you know if you should get a Gestetner, HP or Ricoh may be better. So what should you do?Do some basic research online using the buyer's lab reports. Look for awards and low failure rates. If the model is brand new; wait a few months so the manufacturer has time to get the bugs out. Do not assume that a BIG NAME means the best choice. Did you know the Lanier / Gestetner/ Ricoh / Savin are the same company? Mita / CopyStar / Kyocera too! Did you know HP laser printers are actually Canon based? It's a challenge to make an educated selection. Be careful. Ask questions. Get referrals. Check the service record of the company you choose. When is your equipment lease up? Does it offer a lump sum or 1$ buy-out clause at the end of the lease? What is the current value of the equipment? What is the estimated life of the copier/printer? Most of these questions are simple to determine with a few keystrokes on the internet.Get all the answer before you commit. Ask questions. Look at the terms. Know you page counts and be very careful not to fail in the low ball tactics of some copier printer leasing companies.

Copier Lease Or Purchase - Ideal Option? For any business owner who has blazed this same trail from being a mom & pop shop and into a real business, we graduate from printers to a copy machine, and then to a multifunction copier that was leased and not purchased. All of us go looking with excitement for an office in a commercial building to actually be a full-fledged business once we've outgrown the home-grown business. Then comes all the additional expenses we didn't see coming. Networking, furniture, the cost of commercial phones and phone line costs rather than residential, etc. One of the biggest unplanned expenses is the need for a copy machine, or at least that is where it starts. "We don't need a copier, we'll just use the printers we've had for the past few years" many people think. What we haven't learned yet is that printer costs are more expensive than copier costs.A copier can make copies for pennies, but a printer costs six to twenty (.06 to.20) cents per page. Once we start creating marketing pieces, printing invoices, accounting, inventory, etc, we find ourselves wishing we had bought stock in the printer cartridge industry. Then we wake up and realize we needed a copier. After a year or three, we next learn we shouldn't have bought that small copier, because now we need a huge one, and one that staples, collates, faxes, scans, acts like a printer and 25 other bells and whistles. So we do our homework and learn all about a multifunction copier. We see it is the exact answer for all our business needs. In fact, we can let go of all the printers and those expensive cartridges. We think we've found business nirvana with this new tool that does everything, until we see the price tag. Then our heart skips a beat and we realize the price of this machine that we can't live without, costs as much capital as we have in the bank, and payroll is next week. Finally we learn we can keep all our precious capital for our business, and still have our new business toy, a fully multifunction copier, simply by leasing it.After using our new toy for just 2 months, we found out we can sell a garage sale: • Printers • Printer cartridges • Fax machines • Fax machine toner cartridges • Copy machine • Copy machine cartridgesThen we don't even need an accountant to realize how much money we were spending on all those machines, buying new ones every few years, stocking up on all the cartridges, keeping it all organized, hoping nothing breaks so we don't have to make another capital investment. We realize we've started saving ourselves a ton of money, and we have one machine, networked so the whole office can use it, and it is 5-8 machines all rolled up into one. This new genius black box (or white) prints in black and white and 50-100 pages a minute. It prints in color, it scans, faxes, staples, collates and more. Our lease comes with a service contract and a service tech shows up once a month or so (depending on our copier lease), and they maintain it and it never breaks down. If it does, one phone call and they hop on over to fix it; no fear, no loss of more capital, no running down to kinko's to send a fax, nothing; all our business printing functions are handled. We wish we'd have known about this gem of a machine a long time ago. We realized once our business grew out of our home-office or garage, we should have leased this great invention. We reminisce about all the money spent on all those machines cartridges, toners, supplies, shaking our head at how stupid we were. We weren't stupid, we just didn't know.

Most photocopier and office equipment suppliers will have recently seen an increased number of businesses choosing copier leasing over purchasing. Copier leasing is on the increase primarily because businesses are looking for stable solutions in the recession when the economic future is not clear. Leasing copiers and other office equipment is often appealing to businesses for several reasons: Finances can be planned more effectively (paying a fixed amount each month) There is no large cash sum to pay up front They can keep up to date with all the latest technology The device is only paid for for the time it is needed, up until the leasing agreement runs out Leasing agreements could deliver possible tax benefits Often there is an option to purchase the equipment at the end of the lease Service agreements are often included in the copier lease, allowing for technical assistance Although there are many advantages to copier leasing, many businesses have become reluctant to take out long term lease agreements, mostly due to their uncertain or unstable financial future. With this change, photocopier suppliers have had to make it possible for customers to gain a copier lease agreement and feel comfortable in the amount time the lease has been taken out for. Copier suppliers, such as Canon Copiers, have adapted and become more flexible by shortening some lease agreements so that businesses do not have make such a long term commitment. The FLA chief recently announced to businesses that leasing could be the way to beat the recession (http://www.fla.org.uk/news/news.asp?ID=545), declaring that lease contracts offer a chance to manage cash flow and deliver stability as lenders cannot cancel the contract. It might be that businesses are more likely to choose to take out a copier lease agreement over purchasing, but they have to be approved by a leasing and finance company. Leasing companies have made it tougher for businesses to be approved as it has been more difficult to guarantee the stability of businesses during the recession. However, by offering shorter term copier leasing and supporting businesses in their bid to be approved a lease, some photocopier and office equipment suppliers have adapted to help make it more likely for businesses to be approved. It has recently been claimed that the UK economy has started to grow again perhaps meaning that the end of the recession is drawing near and eventually more leasing contracts may be approved and businesses could feel comfortable taking out longer term leases. However, until then the copier suppliers have to adapt to the change in the market and offer flexibility to help businesses gain the lease agreement needed and have access to the best photocopiers available.

The Battle of Albuera (16 May 1811) was fought during the Peninsular War. A mixed British, Spanish and Portuguese corps engaged elements of the French Armée du Midi (Army of the South) at the small Spanish village of La Albuera, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of the frontier fortress town of Badajoz, Spain. Since October 1810, Marshal Masséna's French Army of Portugal had been tied down in an increasingly hopeless stand-off against Wellington's Allied forces. Acting on Napoleon's orders, in early 1811 Marshal Soult led a French expedition from Andalusia into Extremadura in a bid to draw Allied forces away from the battle lines and ease Masséna's plight. In April 1811, following news of Masséna's complete withdrawal from Portugal, Wellington sent the powerful Anglo-Portuguese Army commanded by Sir William Beresford to retake the border town. Meeting at Albuera, both sides suffered heavily, and the French finally withdrew on 18 May. (Full article...)
